The Townhouse West Bay
The Townhouse is a modern, three story apartment directly overlooking the picturesque inner harbour at West Bay, situated on the stunning ‘Jurassic Coast’ in Dorset. It offers stunning views, whatever the weather, from four separate patios or balconies. The ground floor patio has direct access onto the harbour side, giving access to West Beach within seconds and direct access to the stunning coastal paths, east toward Chesil Beach, or west toward Eype and Charmouth. A truly memorable base for a holiday by the sea in beautiful Dorset, it has three spacious bedrooms, all complete with their own balconies, two with en-suites bathrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor. Designed to comfortably accommodate six adults, it also comes with cot and highchair for very young children. Bedrooms are fitted with king size, double and twin beds for maximum flexibility and the entire property is tastefully and comfortably furnished. The lounge area has large and comfortable seating, a Large screen Smart TV, Bluray Player and Bluetooth Sound System. WiFi and high speed fibre broadband is supplied. The dining area and lounge open out onto the patio with lovely views over the harbour. The modern and stylish kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and Nespresso coffee machine. All bookings are greeted with a selection of local Dorset goodies and all linen (towels, bed linen, tea cloths) is supplied.
There is an allocated undercover parking space available for one car, in a secure gated access parking area. Additional visitor parking is on a first come basis, but additional parking can also be found throughout West Bay (The Mound Car Park is less than 30 metres from the front door).
West Bay has a good selection of shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs (and numerous food cabins around the harbour) but nearby Bridport (10 minute drive) is the local centre for shopping – a thriving Georgian market town it has a wide selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets (Waitrose, Morrisons, Co-op and Lidl) with a popular street market (Wednesdays and Saturdays).
There are miles of beautiful beaches, including West Bay itself, with Eype (1 mile), Charmouth (7 miles) and Burton Bradstock (2 miles) all having adequate parking. Further afield, there are more stunning seafront locations at Lyme Regis and Seaton, Devon still only a short drive away.
Dorset has more than its share of quaint villages and landmarks including Forde Abbey and ‘The Cobb’ in Lyme Regis, but has a proud history of appearing in film and television due to its natural beauty. West Bay was, of course, recently the location for ‘Broadchurch’ (and less well known, ‘Harbour Lights’), but films have included ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ (Thomas Hardy was born in Dorchester and lived at Max Gate, now a National Trust property), ‘The French Lieutenants Woman’ (John Fowles lived in Lyme Regis), ‘The Boat that Rocked’, ‘Persuasion’, ‘Tamara Drewe’, ‘From Time to Time’, ‘Emma’ and ‘Dunkirk’.
The ‘Jurassic Coast’ is known for an abundance of fossil finds, popularised by the original findings by Mary Anning in Lyme Regis, but there is a sequence of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous formations along the coast from Exmouth to Portland. Significant finds have included Icthyosaur, Plesiosaur, Dimorphodon, Scelidosaurus and Dapedium. There is an annual fossil festival and the Dinosaurland Fossil Museum in Lyme Regis, or the ‘Seaton Jurassic’ attraction in Seaton, Devon.
A stunning location directly on the harbour, with spacious balconies on all three floors overlooking the harbour, cliffs and sea.
